Toronto's charm: world-class without the attitude. The Tower pierces clouds at 553 metres, but locals still say sorry when you bump them. Queen West ranks world's second coolest street, yet Graffiti Alley – the only legal street art spot – stays underground. 200 ethnic groups somehow make one harmonious whole.

The problem is, Toronto hides its best stories. Tourists snap the Tower, shop at Eaton Centre, but they miss Casa Loma and the Financial District Art Deco. They never learn the Old City Hall nearly became a mall, or that ancient shoreline runs through Casa Loma's gardens.
