Introducing our San Anselmo, California tours
A bronze Yoda and Indiana Jones stand in a small park in the middle of San Anselmo, paid for by George Lucas. The town started out quieter: a railroad stop called Junction, where one line split east to San Rafael and another west to Fairfax, among a few ranch houses and a good many cattle.
Then came 1906. Families who lost their homes in the San Francisco earthquake crossed the bay and stayed, and within a year the town had incorporated. They left their mark in odd places: a curved brick wall around one estate is built from the bricks of burned San Francisco houses, and a cast-iron deer named Sugarfoot, who survived the fire that took his family's garden, now keeps watch outside Town Hall.
VoiceMap's self-guided audio tours fill in the rest: how the Women's Improvement Club talked a judge into funding a library, how a seminary on the hill shaped the town, and how a dry town kept pouring whiskey for anyone who asked for tea.
