The date above the door says 1893, but the Museum of the History of Pharmacy is older than its facade. Łódź’s first pharmacy opened on this spot in 1830, and the shop is still dispensing today.
The restored building holds a second pharmacy inside the first. A series of rooms recreate the life of a late 1800s chemist’s, with authentic furnishings and implements. Reportedly, no other pharmacy in the city comes close to its age. The past here is not behind glass: the working counter is next door.
On VoiceMap’s Łódź tour, you meet it on Plac Wolności. The tour points out the 1893 date, the 1830 origins and the museum rooms, then sets the shop among the square’s other buildings, including the modest 1827 town hall.
