About the Tour

Wie was toch Thomas a Kempis. De schrijver/samensteller van het boek in navolging van Christus. Na de bijbel het meest gelezen en gedrukte boek ter wereld. Thomas was de grootste influenser die deze stad ooit gehad heeft.

Hij woonde in Zwolle in de 15e eeuw. We herdenken in 2021 dat Thomas 550 jaar geleden gestorven is.

ANNO, museum in de maak, heeft naast deze audiotour allerlei jubileum activiteiten in het kader van deze herdenking.

Thomas leefde in de late middeleeuwen in de bloeitijd van Zwolle als Hanzestad. Tevens was het de tijd van de Modere devotie, een spirituele beweging binnen de middeleeuwse katholieke Kerk die opkwam aan het eind van de 14e eeuw. In deze tour plaatsen we Thomas in dat tijdsbeeld.

Places to stop along the way

Zwolle is een interessante stad met vel hoogwaardige horeca en veel bezienswaardigheden. Je komt met deze tour in de buurt van diverse interessante plekken. zoals museum de Fundatie en Waanders in de Broeren en Academiehuis de Grote kerk. Op het grote Kerkplein vind je het balletjeshuis dat tevens een toeristisch informatiepunt is.

Best time of day

Deze tour kan je altijd lopen, houdt alleen rekening met de vrijdagochtend en de zaterdag. Dan is er warenmarkt in Zwolle. Een deel van de tour loopt over de warenmarkt.

Precautions

Zwolle is net als in de vijftiende eeuw gigantisch aan het groeien. Er zijn dus allerlei bouwwerkzaamheden in de stad. Soms kan het zo zijn dat je even rond moet lopen. Bv bij Waanders in de Broeren
