About the Tour

Retrace Quebec’s history on a walk along the city’s fortifications to discover their military past. By the end of this walking tour, you’ll be familiar with this historic site, and also the unique blend of architectural styles, influenced by the French and British, that many of the surrounding buildings feature.

Along the way, you’ll learn about the English conquest, and a lesser-known attack led by an American army. I’ll paint a picture so you can imagine yourself here during times of attack and siege, and during peaceful times when large gatherings took place on Esplanade Park during the military parades. You’ll also learn about Old Quebec’s omnipresent religious heritage and, in particular, that of the surrounding area.

This 60-minute tour starts at Fontaine de Tourny and ends at the famous Place d’Youville, a hub of entertainment.

"English follows."

I live in Quebec city and I studied history here, at the Laval University. I started working as a tour guide in 1997 while stuying and decided to keep working in tourism in order to share my passion for history and languages with every visitor I would have the chance to meet. In 2004, I founded my own tour guide company, Tours Voir Québec, and I still operate it today. Over the years, by adding precious resources to the company, we have been able to develop a wide range of tours and we are still working to develop more. Since many years, Tours Voir Québec is praised by major tour resellers, like Tripadvisor and Get Your guide, as being the number one city walking tour company in Canada. I hope that my passion for our city and its surroundings will show in the different audio-tours I am offering on Voicemap. Enjoy!

How VoiceMap Works

Focus on your surroundings, not the screen

VoiceMap’s audio tour app uses GPS to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. Just install it, then download your tour and go to the starting point to begin your walk, drive, cycle, train trip or even boat ride.

Follow a route with turn-by-turn-directions

Tours follow a route from a fixed starting point. This is how we provide turn-by-turn directions. It also helps publishers tell a story greater than the sum of its parts. But you can use Resume to pick up a tour from the closest location whenever you like.

Listen as many times as you like

You can listen to your tours as often as you like using both the VoiceMap app and the VoiceMap website. Your access to tours doesn’t expire.

Take virtual tours anywhere

Just select Virtual mode in the VoiceMap app to listen to tours at home – or anywhere else. You’ll see the option after you download the tour. You can also listen to the whole tour here on the website.

Buy for less on and sync

Once you’ve purchased a tour, it’s added to your VoiceMap library. If you sign into the app using the same method you used on the website, you’ll have access to your full library of tours in both places.

Use VoiceMap offline

The VoiceMap app works entirely offline if there’s no data connection, so you don’t have to pay roaming fees. Just download the tour over WiFi before you get started.

Places to stop along the way

If any are open, I recommend to enter in Le Diamant and Charlmers-Wesley Church. Make sure to checkout the schedules for the Palais Montcalm, Le Diamant and Le Capitole theatres.

Best time of day

This tour can be done at anytime. Except during the 10 days of the Summer Festival that takes place in July, where there might be some detours to be taken and should definitely be done before the concerts.

Wear comfortable shoes, walk will take you down a steep hill. Dress accordingly to weather conditions.
