About the Tour

For many, London is a magical city. On this whimsical walking tour through its enchanting streets, Harry Potter’s wizarding world will come alive before your eyes.

Your journey begins at Westminster Bridge, where you’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, and finishes in Piccadilly Circus. I’ll take you past several locations that were featured in the films, and to some of London’s iconic landmarks, too. You’ll explore Whitehall, which is home to numerous elegant government buildings – and the Ministry of Magic, of course.

Along the way, I’ll show you Banqueting House, the site of a beheading that was even more scandalous than the one suffered by Nearly Headless Nick. Next, it’s time to wander through the bustling street of Cecil Court, said to have inspired JK Rowling’s wizarding shopping avenue, Diagon Alley.

You’ll then make your way to Leicester Square, in the centre of London’s entertainment district. There, you’ll see the famous Odeon Cinema where all Harry Potter films have enjoyed their UK premieres.

On this 75-minute tour, you’ll have a chance to:

  • Take in sights that were featured in The Philosopher’s Stone, the Prisoner of Azkaban and the Order of the Phoenix movies
  • Spot the Muggle Prime Minister’s home on Downing Street
  • See where Harry, Ron and Hermione broke into the Ministry of Magic in The Deathly Hallows Part 1
  • Stroll down Great Scotland Yard, the original home of London’s Metropolitan Police where, in Order of the Phoenix, Harry and Mr Weasley made their way to the Ministry of Magic via a red telephone box
  • Stand under the Death Eaters’ flight path over Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery in the Half-Blood Prince
  • Enter Goodwin’s Court, which has a striking resemblance to the dark and dangerous Knockturn Alley
  • Snap a photo next to the Harry Potter Statue which shows Harry on his Nimbus 2000 broomstick
  • Find out exactly where in Piccadilly Circus Harry, Ron and Hermione were nearly run over by a red double-decker bus in The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Whether you’re a die-hard Potterhead or simply enjoy a good walk, this spellbinding London audio tour will introduce you to many of the capital’s most iconic and impressive sights.

Tour Producer

I’m Ian Grover and for many years it’s been my pleasure to guide visitors around London and throughout the British Isles. As well as the iconic sights, I delight in showing the hidden gems that many people miss.

My background was centred around the automotive industry when in 1980 I started work as a trainee car salesman with Renault UK Ltd. Over the coming years I progressed to sales management with Mercedes-Benz and finally ended up with the splendidly sounding title of Personal Liaison Manager, responsible for UK sales of their two flagship models. These were the ultra-luxurious Maybach, and a 300 km/h supercar called the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. When these two programmes came to an end I decided to take a different path in life and do something that I had always had a passion for and I became a tour guide.

I went to the University of Westminster in London where, after comprehensive training, I qualified with distinction as a City of Westminster Tour Guide, Since then, over the past years I have delivered both walking tours of London and driving tours throughout the British Isles and this is something that I still enjoy immensely.

In addition to my physical tours, through my Talk the Walk profile on VoiceMap, I'm now focussed on producing engaging audio tours so that travellers can explore with me in their own time and at their own pace.

Directions to Starting Point

The tour begins on Westminster Bridge next to the Houses of Parliament. To get to the start point you will need to walk onto the right hand side of the bridge with Parliament Square behind you and Big Ben on your right. As you walk to the bridge you'll see distinctive green and gold lamp posts with three lanterns on top. You need to stop by the third of these lamp posts from where you'll enjoy a fantastic view of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. This is the start point for our tour.

Tips

Places to stop along the way

The areas you will be walking through are full of bars, cafes, restaurants and pubs so if you do feel the need of refreshment you have plenty of choice along the way.

Best time of day

This tour can be taken all year round and at any time of day. You will be starting close to Westminster Station and the streets outside get very busy during the rush hour. Try to start the tour after 10:00 and before 17:00 if possible. Evenings after 19:00 are also a good time.

Precautions

London is generally a very safe city. Like all major cities though it's always best to be aware that pickpockets sometimes operate around busy areas such as bus stations and rail stations so make sure that your belongings are secured and out of sight. Take particular care while crossing roads as we drive on the opposite side of the road compared to many countries. Watch out also for cyclists as they do not always pay attention to red lights and traffic directions.
