Rod Sweet

I’m a journalist and podcaster with over 30 years experience telling interesting, fact-based stories. I’ve specialised in the built environment for the last 25 years and I currently edit Global Construction Review. Presenting tours that tell the stories of cities is the absolute funnest thing I’ve ever done.

I studied history and political science at the University of Toronto, and have never stopped. I also love walking, so when I visit a new city, I’m torn between going to museums to learn its story and walking it to experience it and see how it’s all knitted together. My tours let you do both at once, and I bring to each my insatiable curiosity, rigorous research and crisp storytelling.

For me, city stories are human stories. Cities are created and shaped by people, so each city is a log of people’s ambitions, hopes, fears and ideas over centuries. That can all be accessible if you know where to look.

I don’t shy away from complexity. My training in broadcast journalism taught me the craft of writing for the ear, so I can build the big picture while keeping you and the story moving nicely along.
