The Independence Trail is a brass line embedded in Rothschild Boulevard's pavement, tracing the ten sites where Tel Aviv and the State of Israel began. It was inaugurated in 2018 to mark Israel's 70th anniversary, but the story it tells started in 1909, when families drew a lottery using seashells to divide a plot of sand dunes outside Jaffa.

The trail connects a mosaic fountain commissioned for Tel Aviv's 50th anniversary, the house of the city's first mayor, and the hall where David Ben-Gurion declared Israeli independence in 1948. That the same building served both purposes is the trail's central argument: the founding of a city and the founding of a state are the same story.
