The Poznań Goats butt heads on the Town Hall tower every day at noon. They arrived with the clock in 1551, and an old chronicle describes them as “a buffoon device”. Today’s pair are computer-controlled.
No one knows where the goats came from, but legend blames a chef’s assistant too absent-minded to watch the main dish at a city feast. Sent to find something else for the guests, he chased two goats from a meadow, and they bolted up the tower, where they remain.
VoiceMap’s tours tell that legend beneath the tower, then meet a second pair at street level. Their creator put them up in 2002, after wishing as a child that the originals weren’t so high.
