According to legend, St. Sebald lived in the forests around Nuremberg and worked miracles there. When he died, an ox cart carried him to this spot, and his relics still rest in a brass tomb inside St. Sebald Church, or *Sebalduskirche*.
The church has a rival. Nuremberg grew up on both banks of the *Pegnitz*, each side with a church at its heart. Whenever one was enlarged, the other followed straight away. Across the river, St. Lawrence still looks almost identical.
VoiceMap’s tours tell Sebald’s story at the church door and explain the rivalry that left Nuremberg with two near-twin churches. They also reveal that the square outside was once a graveyard.
