Museum of Liverpool
About
Just outside the Museum of Liverpool stands a sculpture that is part sheep, part banana, a nod to two cargoes that once passed through these docks in staggering quantities. It sets the tone nicely for a museum built on reclaimed ground: this stretch of the Pier Head sits atop George's Dock, filled in around 1900 after more than a century of moving goods, and people, in and out of the city.

Opened in 2011 as Britain's first purpose-built national museum in over a hundred years, its four galleries, The Great Port, Global City, People's Republic and Wondrous Place, trace Liverpool from Neolithic settlement to Mersey Beat.

VoiceMap's tours use the building as both a waypoint and window: one traces the transatlantic slave trade's dockside origins nearby, another follows the Beatles' rise through these same waterfront streets, ending where their story does.
