The Freedom Trail
About
Boston's Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile red brick line stitched into the city's pavements, connecting sixteen sites that tell the story of how a colony of difficult Puritans became a revolutionary nation. The trail begins at Boston Common, where cattle once grazed on land a half-nude Englishman sold back to the town, and ends in Charlestown, in sight of the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill obelisk.

Along the way it passes Granary Burying Ground, where Mother Goose, Paul Revere, and Samuel Adams lie within yards of each other, and the Old South Meeting House, from which five thousand men dispersed to dump forty-six tons of tea into the harbour.

VoiceMap's self-guided audio tours trace the trail's full cast, from the escaped slave who grabbed a British bayonet with his bare hands to the silversmith who warned the countryside the Redcoats were coming.
