About the Tour

St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands and is famous for its sun-kissed beaches, welcoming people, and radiant culture. On this driving tour, you’ll cruise from Christiansted to Frederiksted to uncover the stories that shaped the island, from colonial conquests to the fight for freedom. You’ll also find out why we drive on the left, despite being a US territory.

The tour starts at Christiansted Bypass Overlook where, on a clear day, you’ll be able to see the neighboring island of St. Thomas. You’ll enter the heart of Christiansted where I’ll show you Gallows Bay, once the site of public executions. Then, we’ll swing around Altona Lagoon Beach, a local favorite for exercise and recreation.

As you drive along the Queen Mary Highway, you’ll learn about the local woman it’s named after and her pivotal role in the 1878 rebellion known as “The Fireburn.” The tour ends along the golden shores of Frederiksted Beach, where I’ll leave you to unwind to the tunes of my single, Positive Is How We Live – one of three included in the tour.

Along the way, you’ll have a chance to:

  • Take in beautiful ocean views, learn about local culture, and experience the incomparable vibe of St. Croix
  • Hear the real story of Columbus’ arrival on the island and the surprising history behind St. Croix’s seven flags
  • Learn some of the island’s playful local slang, and about how Alexander Hamilton lived on the island for seven years
  • Understand the rise and fall of St. Croix’s sugarcane industry
  • Visit two historic forts that have stood the test of time, Fort Frederik and Fort Christiansvaern
  • Stop for a scoop at Armstrong’s Ice Cream, a local favorite that’s been operating for over a century, or a treat from Gary’s Bakery, an island favorite

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to rediscover the island, this fun and insightful 45-minute tour will deepen your appreciation for St. Croix’s history and natural beauty.

Buckle up, hit play, and let’s explore St. Croix together!

Tour Producer

Hey there! I’m Gyasi Clarke, a singer, songwriter, musician, and creative storyteller born and raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The island isn’t just where I live, it’s part of who I am.

As a full-time performer and recording artist, I’ve spent years sharing stories through music. With my main tour. Driving in the Left Lane, I’ve taken that same passion for storytelling and brought it to the road. This GPS-guided audio tour blends Virgin Islands history, personal stories, cultural insight, and original music into an immersive experience that moves with you across the island.

The tour features 74 major audio trigger points and was researched, written, recorded, and produced in my own studio. It was developed over nearly three years, combining local knowledge, historical research, and countless hours of route testing to create a seamless and engaging journey from Christiansted to Frederiksted.

Whether you’re visiting St. Croix for the first time or you’ve lived here your whole life, my goal is simple: to help you see the island with deeper understanding, greater appreciation, and a stronger connection to the stories that shaped it. So join me in the left lane!
