Philadelphia Haunted Tour: Liberty Ghost Walk
About the Tour
There are over 340 years of triumph and tragedy that refuse to stay buried beneath Philadelphia’s cobblestone streets.
On this chilling walking tour, you’ll explore the haunted corners of Old City and Society Hill. It’s a place where America’s founding fathers still linger, revolutionary soldiers still march, and centuries of restless spirits make their presence known through cold spots, phantom footsteps, and unexplained phenomena.
This tour starts at Benjamin Franklin’s grave outside Christ Church Burial Ground, where visitors often report seeing a tall figure in 18th-century clothes pacing the fence line. You’ll weave through the historic streets of Old City, passing the Betsy Ross House where staff report ice-cold air in warm rooms and footsteps pacing empty floors. You’ll explore Elfreth’s Alley, America’s oldest continuously inhabited residential street, where British soldiers are still said to patrol and children’s laughter echoes across empty cobblestones.
Along the way, you’ll discover how yellow fever epidemics claimed thousands of lives, and hear about the murders and misfortunes that left their supernatural imprint on the city. The tour ends at Independence Hall, where security guards have reported encounters with colonial figures who vanish into thin air – perhaps the founding fathers still watching over their revolutionary experiment.
On this 90-minute ghost tour, you’ll have a chance to:
- Explore Powel House, where a woman in pearls still glides down the grand staircase to greet phantom guests
- Stand outside Hill-Physick House, where the “Father of American Surgery” performed operations before anesthesia existed
- Learn about Carpenters’ Hall, site of the First Continental Congress, considered one of the most actively haunted buildings in the city
- Discover the tragic history of Washington Square, once a potter’s field where thousands of anonymous bodies were buried
- Hear about the ghostly Hag of Pine Street whose vengeful spirit is said to roam Society Hill after dark
- Take photos throughout the tour, as many locations are known for strange anomalies appearing in pictures
Prepare for a spine-tingling journey through Philadelphia’s supernatural history, where the past is never truly dead and buried.

Keith Maynard
Keith is a born-and-raised Philadelphian with a lifelong fascination for the city’s haunted history.
Many of the stories on this tour come from years of exploring Old City’s streets and hearing first-hand accounts from locals, historians, and even a few people who swore they’d seen something they couldn’t explain. Growing up here, Keith has walked these cobblestones in every season and at every hour, learning the hidden corners where history and ghost stories overlap.
His tours blend factual history with eerie detail, bringing each location to life — and making it just a little harder to forget once you’ve moved on.

Tips
Places to stop along the way
You will be walking down 2nd Street which has the most bars and restaurants per square foot that I can think of. I recommend Nick's Roast Beef or Plough and the Stars.
Best time of day
This can be done any time of the day, but if you start this tour right at sunset, you'll get the best spooky experience.
Precautions
This tour will span quite a distance of one of the higher trafficked areas in the city. It will also cover lots of (original) cobblestone streets. Guests are encouraged to use precaution while walking and crossing streets, and to wear proper footwear.
