An Unofficial Magic Kingdom Tour: A Guide to its Legends and Landmarks
About the Tour
Discover a treasure trove of insights and insider knowledge on a walking tour that will complete your experience of Walt Disney World’s original theme park.
The magic begins once you’ve paid for your park entry ticket and walked through the gates. You’ll hear all about Walt Disney and why he chose ‘star in your own movie’ as the theme for the first park in his Florida Project plans. Indeed, you’ll feel like you’re at your very own movie premier as you walk over red-carpet-colored paving, past a popcorn stand and along Main Street USA, where the park's very own 'movie credits' are interspersed with inside jokes along its second story windows. Afterwards you’ll stop at the ‘Partners Statue’ of Mickey and Walt, and find out what the characters might be thinking as they gaze out over the crowds. From there, it’s time to head to Tomorrowland to see the Carousel of Progress, the world’s longest-running stage show, and the only attraction in the park to have been touched by Walt Disney himself.
There’s so much to see! On this tour, you’ll also:
- Search for one of Disney’s most lovable sidekicks as you play the Hidden Pascals Game, near Rapunzel’s bathrooms
- Hear how Wind in the Willows’ J. Thaddeus Toad’s headstone in the Haunted Mansion’s pet cemetery is actually an ode to a closed park ride
- Learn how your walk through Liberty Square to Frontierland represents a trip from East to West across the United States
- Find the spot that Disney specially designed as the meeting point for the entire universe
- Get insider knowledge about the best ways to view the fireworks at Cinderella Castle
- Discover why two skeletons are locked in an eternal game of chess at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction By the end of this tour, you’ll have answers to questions like:
- Who was Randy Pausch and why is there an inscribed leaf dedicated to him at the Mad Tea Party?
- What makes the water brown in the Jungle Cruise at Adventureland Plaza?
- Who is Pecos Bill and why is he so popular with all his patrons?
- Why is the Magic Kingdom always so clean?
- Who’s been scattering peanut shells on the ground in Storybook Circus?
This hour-long tour by former Walt Disney Imagineer, Joshua Leppert, is a great alternative for those who don’t want to spend a small fortune on an official Disney-branded tour, while still hearing behind-the-scenes highlights!
As Mickey says, “See you real soon!”
Please Note: This tour does not include entry to the park and will not give you access to the backstage Utilidors that are featured on official Disney tours.

Best time of day
Check the My Disney Experience app for accurate information on Magic Kingdom park hours. Try and leave yourself at least three hours before the park closes to complete the tour! This tour can be completed any day of the year, as long as the Magic Kingdom is open.
Precautions
You need valid admission to the theme park in order to access the tour! This tour can easily be done on a park day while you also ride the rides, so it is not recommended to purchase separate admission just for this tour alone.
Please make sure to take Park Hours into account. They can be found online as well as on the My Disney Experience app. Give yourself at least 1 Hour for this tour if you DON'T plan on stopping inside at any of the locations I point out or riding any rides.
