About the Tour
This easy looped walking tour is perfect for toddlers and young children. This tour begins at the circle of benches on the north end of Naramata Centre beach. Our imaginations run wild as we explore kid-friendly locations, with fun activities along the way that appeal to pint-sized adventurers. Bring water and snacks, and don't forget to stop for ice cream!
Along the way, you‘ll have a chance to:
- Play on multiple playgrounds and pretend to be pirates
- Shoot family pictures, peacock style
- Explore a public vegetable garden
- Pick up seeds to plant at home
- Eat snacks, refresh with drinks
- Read books and see cool artwork
- Cool off at the beach and make sandcastles
This hike takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the syilx (Okanagan) people, who have resided here since time immemorial. We recognize, honour, and respect the syilx lands, and appreciate the opportunity to learn about, and be in this special place.

Tips
Places to stop along the way
Play pretend on the Naramata Centre playground, explore the permaculture garden, play a game of tag in the Naramata Centre field, explore the Naramata School playground, rest at the Naramata School Outdoor Learning space, eat and drink along Naramata's Robinson Avenue, go for a swim or make sandcastles on the Naramata Centre beach.
Best time of day
This walking tour is great year round. In the heat of the summer, go in the morning or early evening when the weather is coolest.
If school is in session (September through June, up to 3:15pm, Monday to Friday) the tour will be a little shorter as we detour the elementary school grounds.
If school is not in session, because it's July, August, the weekends, a holiday or after 3:15, then this tour will be a little longer, and also include the elementary school grounds.
Precautions
Naramata is a quiet village without sidewalks. This tour leads you like a local, walking on the roads. Please take care with cars.
The summer can be very hot for little ones. Please make sure you take plenty of water with you, and a snack for your hungry bear cubs. Take a stroller or carrier for small children, and never underestimate the power of a piggyback ride.
Although the tour sticks to the bridge over Naramata Creek, still be sure to take extra care around the creek during the high waters of freshet, in late spring and early summer.
