About the Tour

On this tour, I’ll show you why Milan has more to offer than design fairs and fashion houses. We’ll start at the city’s cathedral, which is its most famous landmark, but from there I’ll help you seek out its lesser-known corners. You’ll meet despots from the Middle Ages, colourful characters from the Renaissance and the odd saint along the way. The Grim Reaper puts in an appearance too. (But not for long.)

You’ll also hear about

• Milan’s very own Lady Liberty and Loch Ness Monster
• A duke that got his come-uppance
• A collection of rattling old bones that was transformed into works of art
• Madonnas with dirty faces
• A lovely Baroque park
• A city that might have seemed like Venice
• Leonardo da Vinci’s unfinished monument
• Student protests at the historic hospital for the poor
• Black piglets that kept shingles at bay

I’ll point out some great places to stop for coffee and pastries too, as well as a few of the best bars.

Tour Producer

Deborah Robinson

I was born in England and raised in Scotland and came to Milan in 1986 upon gaining my degree in Italian and French. After working in a company for many years I obtained the two licences to be a tour leader and local tourist guide. This has allowed me to share my passion for history, art not to mention Milanese style. I'm also very fond of sampling local food and the potent wines of Valtellina. When I'm not guiding you can find me cycling round the city in search of great new places to take my visitors. You can check out some of my tours on

How VoiceMap Works

Focus on your surroundings, not the screen

VoiceMap’s audio tour app uses GPS to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. Just install it, then download your tour and go to the starting point to begin your walk, drive, cycle, train trip or even boat ride.

Follow a route with turn-by-turn-directions

Tours follow a route from a fixed starting point. This is how we provide turn-by-turn directions. It also helps publishers tell a story greater than the sum of its parts. But you can use Resume to pick up a tour from the closest location whenever you like.

Listen as many times as you like

You can listen to your tours as often as you like using both the VoiceMap app and the VoiceMap website. Your access to tours doesn’t expire.

Take virtual tours anywhere

Just select Virtual mode in the VoiceMap app to listen to tours at home – or anywhere else. You’ll see the option after you download the tour. You can also listen to the whole tour here on the website.

Buy for less on and sync

Once you’ve purchased a tour, it’s added to your VoiceMap library. If you sign into the app using the same method you used on the website, you’ll have access to your full library of tours in both places.

Use VoiceMap offline

The VoiceMap app works entirely offline if there’s no data connection, so you don’t have to pay roaming fees. Just download the tour over WiFi before you get started.
