Hollywood Boulevard Walking Tour: Where Film Met the Airwaves
About the Tour
Once a dusty ranch road, Hollywood Boulevard went on to become the world’s most famous street. Grand movie palaces rose beside radio studios, and the sidewalk itself became a shrine to stardom.
On this walking tour, you’ll discover how the golden age of Hollywood still lingers in its surviving restaurants, theaters, and bars. You’ll also hear about the places where aspiring actors once honed their talents, landmark premieres changed the film industry, and live radio shows entertained millions across the country.
The tour starts at Miceli’s Italian Restaurant, just off Hollywood boulevard. You’ll step into spaces where early performers gathered, where writers and movie stars traded stories over late-night drinks, and where the glamour and grit of old Hollywood still echo through vintage neon signs and Art Deco facades. Along the way, you’ll pass beloved local institutions, architectural gems that have survived nearly a century of change, and longtime hangouts for actors and directors like the popular bar Boardner’s by La Belle.
You’ll encounter hidden corners like The Frolic Room that once sheltered secret nightlife, historic hotels tied to legendary romances like Hollywood Knickerbocker, and Capitol Records Tower, a landmark that helped shape the sound of the 20th century.
As you walk, you’ll see how layers of Hollywood history – from silent films to radio, and classic cinema to modern pop culture – still coexist along these famous blocks. The tour ends at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, a local institution that can trace its roots back to the Great Depression.
On this tour, you’ll have a chance to:
- See the former Warner Bros. Hollywood Theatre, later known as the Hollywood Pacific Theatre, where one of Hollywood’s most important early film premieres took place
- Admire colorful street art celebrating Hollywood legends
- Visit Scum and Villainy Cantina, a lively bar inspired by a galaxy far, far away
- Learn how this neighborhood became the broadcasting hub of the West Coast during radio’s golden age
- Discover the buildings where early studio deals were financed
- Take in the surviving Art Deco storefronts that once served Hollywood’s costume designers, extras, and studio workers
This walk reveals how Hollywood’s golden age lives on in its restaurants, theaters, and bars – where the stories of the past still shine through the lights of today.

Armed with a knowledge of the classic film actresses/songbirds and their life stories, my trusty Android, and Eliza, my pet cat, I’m hunting down star-studded stories both past and present.

This tour begins just in front of Miceli's (look for the mural of Frank Sinatra). It can be done during the day but the neon lights are especially gorgeous at night. If you do decide to do it at night, just be aware of pickpockets. And consider grabbing dinner at Miceli's before you get started on your walk.
