London’s Criminal East End: Where Now’s Kray Twins Tour
About the Tour
London’s East End is famous for its culture, cuisine, and cool vibes. But back in the mid-1900s, this was the territory of the infamous Kray twins. These two brothers were regarded as local legends, seen in their glamorous nightclub rubbing shoulders with politicians, celebrities, and the crème de la crème of British society.
On this walking tour around London’s East End, you’ll discover the history of these terrible twins. I’ll give you a glimpse beneath the sheen of their charisma and flashy lifestyle, to see a dark reality filled with violence, corruption, and murder.
The tour starts outside the Royal London Hospital, in the streets where the two brothers lived and operated their criminal empire. You’ll learn all about their childhood here and what shaped them into the East End’s most powerful gangsters. As you walk the streets they ruled, you’ll hear professional actors bring to life some of their most notorious crimes.
While making your way down Vallance Road you’ll hear how the Krays, with the help of West End fraudster Lesley Payne, got their start and began striking deals with the likes of the Italian mafia through schemes like “the long firm fraud.” The tour ends at St. Matthews Church, where the twins would eventually be laid to rest. Here, we’ll look back on the collapse of the Kray’s empire before their eventual capture and subsequent trial.
On this 60-minute walking tour, you’ll get a chance to:
- Visit The Blind Beggar, a pub where Ronnie Kray committed one of the most blatant acts of violence in the East End
- Walk through Vallance Gardens and find out where the two brothers kept some of their victims
- Hear from Detective Leonard ‘Nipper’ Reid as he trails the Krays, gathering the evidence that would lead to their eventual arrest
- Stop by the Repton Boxing Club where some very famous faces got their start in the world of boxing, and hear about the Kray’s differing boxing styles
- Swing by the Carpenters Arms where you’ll hear about the bloody retribution that cut birthday celebrations short
If you’re fascinated by the world of organised crime, this Kray twins walking tour is the experience for you. So delve into the life of the criminals. The celebrities. The brothers. The Legendary Krays.
