Brick Lane: A Guide to the Vibrant Jewel of East London
About the Tour
Join me on a walk that highlights the fascinating history of the East End and discover what makes the ever-changing Brick Lane one of London’s most quirky, iconic streets.
Brick Lane is also where locals go for great food, vintage markets, live performances and unmissable street art. I’ve explored the area over the years, including its secret corners and little-known hangouts, and I'm excited to share what I’ve found. I’ll show you what makes the area a key filming location for musicians and directors too.
Along the way, I’ll tell you about:
- The historic events that shaped the area
- Where to find the best food and the most exotic snacks
- The locations used by famous films including Basic Instinct 2, The Woman in Black and Oliver Twist
- Where to find Banksy's artwork and the area's other famous graffiti
- Boutique shops that local hipsters love
Whether you've been to Brick Lane before or it's your first time, I can't wait to show it to you through my eyes and highlight some of my favourite places. Let's get going!

Tips
Places to stop along the way
I mention multiple places to get a full meal, snacks and small bites, so you'll be spoilt for choice!
Best time of day
Sunday in particular and weekend overall would be the best, as most of the markets are open only during the weekend. However, the walk would be equally enjoyable any other time of the week, preferably in the morning and afternoon when the businesses are open. Note that the weekend would have more people in the area while the weekdays are much quieter.
Please be advised that due to COVID-19 some venues or markets may operate different hours.
Precautions
As with anywhere in the world, make sure you keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of pickpockets. When stopping to look around, stay safe off the roads where cars and bikes pass.
