Cannes Walking Tour: Highlights from Le Suquet to the Croisette
About the Tour
Cannes’ story doesn’t start with red carpets and flashbulbs. Its tale is one of transformation, from an obscure settlement to a beacon of high society.
On this walking tour, you’ll discover everything from Cannes’ most historical sites in the Le Suquet neighborhood, to the glitz and glamour of the Film Festival. I’ll tell you how history, culture, luxury and cinema have intertwined to create this captivating slice of the French Riviera. You’ll also hear fascinating tales about Cannes’ most notorious characters.
Starting outside the CannOlive store at the edge of the New Town and Old Town, you’ll hear the secrets of Cannes’ past while meandering through its picturesque cobblestone streets. You’ll pass La Tarte Tropezienne, a boutique named after the traditional pastry, and stroll through Marché Forville, where locals buy fresh produce and artisanal goods. As you make your way to Boulevard de la Croisette where our tour ends, you’ll learn how the historical Le Suquet district was built on a Roman military camp on the hill. Long before it became a hotspot for the rich and famous, it was a sleepy fishing village.
On this hour-long tour, you’ll get to:
- Pass by Fragonard, one of the world’s oldest perfume houses, which originated in nearby Grasse
- Enjoy breathtaking city and sea views while taking in the impressive Église Notre Dame d’Espérance (Our Lady of Hope church)
- Learn how two monks founded a monastery on the beautiful Lerins Islands just off of Cannes, and see Château de la Castre, the castle they built
- Take in the Statue of Lord Brougham, the father of modern Cannes
- Soak up Cannes Port and hear about the crucial role it played in the city’s development
- Stroll along the Cannes Walk of Fame, where you’ll find names like Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, and even Paul McCartney
- Find four hidden murals dedicated to cinema, including Mur Peint Hôtel de la Plage and Les Murs Peints Cinéma Cannes
By the end of the tour, you’ll have unlocked secrets about the city’s art, history, and vibrant social scene, making for an unforgettable exploration of the city.
Let’s discover the magic of Cannes together, one step at a time. And remember, the true essence of Cannes is best experienced on foot.
