A City of Craft Beer: A Walking Tour of Bristol's Brewery Taprooms
About the Tour
Like beer?
If so, you are in the right place as Bristol's craft beer scene is among the most celebrated in the UK, and I’m the perfect local guide to show you around. I adore my city and our brilliant craft beer scene, and I can’t wait to share it with you on this walking tour.
The tour starts at Bristol Temple Meads train station, where you'll learn about Isambard Kingdom Brunel's engineering legacy. From there, you'll follow a route through the Dings, St Philips and Old Market, passing through railway arches housing microbreweries and brewery taprooms hidden away in industrial estates.
Along the way, you’ll learn the very basics of brewing, interesting facts about the area's history and how the city’s beer scene has fought to exist as it does and developed the years. You’ll pass a number of my favourite weekend hang-outs. There’s even a traditional English pub included among the brewery taprooms. If you've been to Bristol's taprooms before, you'll find that there have been a lot of changes in 2025 and 2026. Taking the tour will bring you up to speed.
In between the seven beer stops, you’ll:
- Hear more about the taprooms, including a few local stories
- Discover interesting tidbits about the city and its history
- Learn a few memorable facts about beer that might just come in handy
- Find out how to reach other great independent venues to visit on another occasion, or at the end of your tour
If you plan on stopping for a couple of beers en route, be sure to take the tour between Thursday and Saturday (See “best time of day” for more information).
The choice of where and how often you stop along the route is yours. The total amount of walking time is 60 minutes. The amount of drinking time is up to you! (Please drink responsibly).
Tour Producer
Heather Goodford
I have lived in the fantastic city of Bristol for more than 26 years. My interest in my city's facinating past combined with my love for craft beer lead to me starting my own small business taking guided tours in 2017.
Guiding both visitors and locals, in both small and large groups, shaped my tours into an experience that was fun and interesting for everyone. My audio tours were carefully created to ensure that the feeling of a personal experience, that helped me win my awards, was not lost just because you can't see me. In fact, you get to see and learn even more about the city, hear my quirks and get recommendations for many more brilliant independent businesses than you would on a guided tour. With me being able to talk as you walk, never straying from your earshot, not wasting time waiting for stragglers or having me rush you, we get a lot more ground covered with an audio tour that matches your own pace.
On a weekend, being a craft beer lover, you'll usually find me in one of the many local brewery tap rooms, cosy pubs or brilliant craft beer bars that Bristol has. As we pass loads of these on my tours, I might even see you there (No joke. On more than one occasion I've overheard someone telling the bar staff that they're on my tour!) When not in Bristol, I'll be enjoying a camping trip or music festival.

Once I bought some French people here on a guided tour, and later they told me they were concerned that I had set up an ambush, as it seemed so unlikely there would be somewhere to have a beer here. I promise that there is.

Directions to Starting Point
You can see the grand main entrance of Bristol Temple Meads train station from the corner of Temple Gate and Station Approach.
Facing the grand main entrance to the station, the tour starts on the left hand side of the bottom of Station Approach. There's a cafe on the corner with plenty of cobbled outdoor space for you to stand out of the way of passing people for a few minutes while you start your tour.
Tips
Places to stop along the way
This tour is all about tasting locally brewed beers, so there are plenty of stops along the way.
Best time of day
The tour will work anytime, but to ensure you make the most of everyone's opening hours, these times are recommended.
Fridays: Start anytime between 3.30pm until 6pm.
Saturdays - Start between 12pm until 6pm.
Thursdays: Start from 3:30pm until 6pm. Not every venue is open, but at least five along the route will be. There will also be other bars and pubs to visit, just a little off the end of the route which are recommended on the tour.
Please note that from November until Easter, one of the brewery taprooms will be closed which will still leave an impressive 6 stops.
Precautions
To consume alcohol, you must be over the age of 18. Please carry ID so you can prove your age if needed. Children are welcome in most venues along the route until 8pm and well behaved dogs on leads are always welcome.
Please drink responsibly and behave sensibly. There are a lot of suggested stops, so unless you are planning on taking the tour as two parts, don't go too mad at the first brewery. Each venue reserves the right to refuse entry or alcohol.
This is England, so always come prepared for varied weather. You may need both sunscreen and an umbrella on the same day.
