About the Tour

Bath is an elegant Georgian city with fascinating history and legendary, healing waters. On this walking tour, you‘ll discover its most impressive landmarks, hear stories about Bath‘s colourful past, and enjoy fun challenges for children and insider tips from a local resident.

The tour starts outside the majestic Bath Abbey, where England‘s first king was crowned over a thousand years ago. You‘ll explore the historic heart of the city, visiting the elegant Pump Rooms where you can taste the famous spring water that gave Bath its name. From there, you‘ll stroll through Victoria Park and up to the spectacular Royal Crescent and The Circus, both masterpieces of Georgian architecture with fascinating symbols and stories.

Along the way, you‘ll learn about the prince whose pig led him to healing waters, and hear why Queen Victoria refused to look at Bath for her entire reign. You‘ll see stunning riverside views at Pulteney Bridge – one of only four bridges in the world with shops built across it – and walk along the picturesque waterfront. The tour ends back at the Abbey Courtyard, where you can enjoy street performers, grab an ice cream, or relax with a well-earned hot chocolate.

During this 60-minute walk, you‘ll have a chance to:

  • Wander through the Theatre Royal district, past charming independent shops Discover how Georgians courted potential spouses
  • Spot the famous yellow door on the Royal Crescent and learn why it caused such controversy
  • Find your way through Beazer Garden Maze by the riverside
  • Search for “ghost signs” – faded painted advertisements that reveal the city‘s commercial past
  • Hear the story behind the Royal coat of arms featuring the lion and unicorn
  • Visit The Coeur de Lion, Bath‘s smallest pub in Northumberland Place
  • See the 800-year-old Guildhall Market with its historic trading “nail”
  • Find filming locations from Bridgerton, Gladiator, and Wonka

This family-friendly route will give you a perfect introduction to Bath‘s highlights, while keeping children entertained with fun facts and challenges throughout.

Hello, I'm Kathryn. I live in the beautiful world heritage city of Bath, with my young family. I enjoy using my local knowledge to create family experiences that are just as inspiring for children as they are for grown ups. I hope you enjoy learning about the historic and cultural highlights of this beautiful city, while completing some fun challenges at the same time. Will you be brave enough to 'taste the water' and can you complete the maze by the river?
