In 1962, Highgate's historic high street was threatened with demolition to make way for a wider road. The Highgate Society came into being at that moment and saved the day. As a local amenity organisation, we work to protect and enhance life in Highgate. That includes planning and development, traffic and transport, and community spaces—but also tourism for the area and activities for residents and local businesses, like talks, concerts, creative groups, and parties. Our motto is “Making Highgate a better place to live and work.” We stand up for the area and aim to enrich its community life. We are delighted to bring you this tour, created for us and narrated by heritage content producer and Highgate local, Deborah Greenfield.
