Klara Mälarstrand takes its name from the old Klara quarter and Lake Mälaren, Sweden's third largest lake. This quay and park stretches along Riddarfjärden bay on Norrmalm, running from Stadshusbron under Centralbron to Vasabron, with Stockholm's City Hall looming close enough to count its bricks.
It is also a working waterfront. Ferries depart from here to Drottningholm Palace and Birka, the Viking Age trading post on the island of Björkö, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites reachable by boat from the same strip of pavement.
VoiceMap's self-guided audio tours use Klara Mälarstrand as a launchpad into Stockholm's island geography, explaining how freshwater Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea just minutes away and tracing a walking route across Riddarholmen and Gamla Stan to find the Old Town's narrowest alley and smallest statue.
