The Muse of Discovery at Lake Eola Park is not quite what she first appears. The monumental figure of a reclining woman, seemingly half-buried in the grass, is actually five separate limestone sculptures arranged to create that illusion. She was originally clothed in fragrant jasmine, but the sheer volume of curious visitors eventually forced a swap to AstroTurf.

Part of See Art Orlando, a permanent collection launched in 2011 and unveiled in 2013, the Muse is one of six pieces installed around Lake Eola. She is an interactive work. Her outstretched hand is designed as a bench, and the placard invites you to sit and discover your hidden potential as she whispers to you.
