Laguna Art Museum collects one subject: California. Every work in it is by a California artist or shows the state itself.
It began in 1918 as the Laguna Beach Art Association, formed by artists who had settled in town. In 1929 the members opened a custom-built gallery on the present site, designed by Los Angeles architect Myron Hunt. The collection now runs to more than 3,500 works.
VoiceMap’s walking tours use the museum as a way into Laguna’s art habit. They point out the public sculpture in Heisler Park, then explain the Pageant of the Masters, where live models recreate famous paintings.
