Commander’s Palace
About
Commander's Palace sits like a Victorian wedding cake on the corner of Washington Avenue and Coliseum Street, its distinctive turquoise and white facade making it impossible to miss in New Orleans' Garden District. Since 1893, this grand dame of Creole cuisine has launched more culinary careers than any other restaurant in America, earning chef alumni fourteen James Beard Awards and spawning restaurant empires from Las Vegas to New York.

The Brennan family transformed what began as a boarding house into a temple of New Orleans hospitality, where three-martini lunches became legendary and jackets were required until surprisingly recently. Paul Prudhomme learned his craft here before putting Louisiana on the culinary map, and Emeril Lagasse honed his "BAM!" in these very kitchens.

Commander's Palace represents more than fine dining; it embodies the Garden District's blend of Southern grandeur and Creole innovation. VoiceMap's self-guided audio tours use the restaurant to illustrate how New Orleans' great families built culinary dynasties, tracing the connections between mansion culture and the city's world-renowned food scene.
