The Prince Mural
About
Minneapolis's Prince Mural rises one hundred feet above a downtown corner, chosen from more than sixty entries by artists hoping to capture a career too large for one image. The winner, Hiero Veiga, settled on three Princes: the unproven Music Wall years, the Purple Rain era, and the resurgence that followed.

Work began in 2015, while Prince was still filling clubs and buying records at the Electric Fetus. It took seven years to finish, turning a tribute into something closer to a memorial. His sister Tyka called the corner a family one. Their parents met downtown, which is part of why the mural means so much to her.

VoiceMap's self-guided audio tour of Prince's Minneapolis uses the mural as a hinge point, tracing Veiga's design back to the guitar shops and stages where each era happened, before continuing to Prince Rogers Nelson Way and the wall of stars beyond it.
