Liberty Bridge
About
Liberty Bridge spans the Danube at its narrowest point in Budapest, its distinctive green ironwork and turul birds perched atop the masts making it instantly recognisable.

Emperor Franz Joseph himself hammered in the final silver rivet at its 1896 opening, part of Hungary's millennial celebrations. Originally named after the emperor, the bridge was rechristened after World War II, though Budapestians sometimes still call it simply "the green bridge."

The structure's Art Nouveau flourishes and Hungarian folk motifs make it arguably the most photogenic of the city's crossings. On summer evenings, locals gather to sit on its roadway during car-free hours, dangling their legs over the water.

VoiceMap's self-guided audio tours trace the bridge's role in connecting Buda's thermal bath culture at the Gellért end with Pest's bustling Great Market Hall, exploring how this crossing shaped the daily rhythms of the reunited city.
