Beethoven's Birthplace
About
Beethoven's Birthplace sits on Bonngasse, a quiet lane in Bonn's old town, and it is exactly what it sounds like: a modest back-building dating to around 1700, where Ludwig van Beethoven entered the world on or around 17 December 1770.

The family lived here until Ludwig was four, when the apartment grew too small, and they moved on. The house stayed standing. The city kept it. It is now the largest Beethoven museum in the world.

What the building contains is remarkable: instruments, letters, original manuscripts, and objects the family actually used. The contrast between the plainness of the rooms and the scale of what grew from them is quietly arresting.

VoiceMap's self-guided audio tour traces Beethoven's Bonn years in full, connecting the birthplace to the churches where he practised organ, the homes of early patrons, and the farewell inn he left from in 1792, never to return.
