Spielbank Berlin
About
Spielbank Berlin has been separating Berliners from their money since 1975, when the first branch opened near the Ku'damm. Today the main casino occupies a sleek glass building at Potsdamer Platz, which is a fitting address: this was once the busiest intersection in Europe, flattened in World War II, then left as a windswept no-man's-land straddling the Wall, before being rebuilt from scratch after reunification into the glittering corporate quarter you see today.

The Spielbank offers poker, roulette and slot machines across two floors. Entry costs a few euros and requires ID. Jacket-and-tie is not mandatory, but the clientele tends to dress accordingly.

VoiceMap's audio tours use Potsdamer Platz to tell the story of Berlin's extraordinary reinvention, tracing how a desolate Cold War border zone became one of Europe's most expensive pieces of real estate in under a decade.
