SS Nomadic
About
SS Nomadic is the last surviving ship of the White Star Line, and one of the most quietly remarkable vessels afloat. Built by Harland and Wolff and launched on 29th April 1911, she spent her working life ferrying passengers and mail between Cherbourg harbour and the great liners anchored offshore. On 10th April 1912, she transferred 172 first and second class passengers to the Titanic. Among her famous passengers over the years were Marie Curie, Charlie Chaplin, and Elizabeth Taylor.

After decades at sea, wartime service as a troop carrier, and a spell as a floating restaurant on the Seine, she returned to Belfast in 2006. She now rests in the Hamilton Graving Dock in the Titanic Quarter.

VoiceMap's Titanic Quarter tour uses the Nomadic to trace the full arc of the White Star Line story, explaining how Belfast built these ships, what became of them, and why a small tender vessel outlasted the most famous liner in history.
