The Crown Liquor Saloon
About
The Crown Liquor Saloon on Great Victoria Street is that rare thing: a pub owned by the National Trust.

More commonly associated with stately homes and walled gardens, the Trust recognised that this ornate Victorian gin palace, opened around 1885 as the Ulster Railway Hotel, deserved the same protection. Its embossed ceilings, intricate tilework and carved wooden snugs are as fine as anything you'd find in a country house drawing room, and considerably better company.

It was originally run by Felix O'Hanlon from South Armagh, and it later appeared in the 1946 film Odd Man Out. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped in during their 2018 visit.

VoiceMap's self-guided audio tour walks you along Great Victoria Street and uses the Crown to open up Belfast's Victorian ambitions, placing it in a streetscape that once announced the city's prosperity to the world.
