Tips

Places to stop along the way

Food and drink can be purchased at several lovely pubs we encounter during this tour including the Dickens Inn, the Angel and the Mayflower Public House. You'll also pass by a small coffee shop in Rotherhithe Village which may be open, depending on what time you do your tour. There is a small supermarket at the final stop where you can purchase drinks and snacks.

Best time of day

From dawn to dusk year-round. The route is particularly atmospheric if done during the hours of darkness, although please note that the footbridge over the River Neckinger is locked at 10pm which necessitates a bit of a detour if you're doing the walk at night. The first few stops will likely be busy with tourists, but by the time you get to the final stop you'll be all by yourself in a quiet residential area.

Precautions

This tour explores areas of London which are generally considered to be safe, although take the same precautions you would when in any big city, especially if doing the walk in the hours of darkness. Whilst the route starts in a busy, touristy area it ends in a quiet residential area where there aren't likely to be many people about late at night.

“This app has become my go-to app for audio tours. I pretty much use it for every trip and it works wonderfully. I highly recommend VoiceMap for travelers to truly experience cities.”
App Store Review
“Great app. walk around at your own pace, stop where you want, move on or speed up when you want. Read the script before you go or during the commentary, speed it up or replay it. Repeat the tour whenever you like.”
