[2 SECOND PAUSE]
Katarina Sianis blinked rapidly, allowing her eyes to adjust to the bright light. She had just emerged from the basement of Wrigley Field, or at least she was pretty sure that’s where she had come from. She couldn’t be sure. Everything was hazy. She looked up at the big red and white sign. She didn’t have to see the letters clearly to know what it said: “Wrigley Field Home of the Chicago Cubs.” It was built in 1914, and the sign was as old as the building itself. Both were an important part of Chicago history.
She rubbed her eyes with her palms and then looked around to get her bearings. She saw the street signs, Addison and Clark and something inside her head stirred. A memory. Clark. She knew that street. She turned so that Wrigley Field was on her left. Then she crossed over Addison and started walking down Clark, leaving the stadium behind her.
[2 SECOND PAUSE]
She felt better now that she was walking. She had no idea where she was going, but the movement and the fresh air would help clear her head. She knew that about herself. She knew her name and where she came from, all that jazz, but she was definitely disoriented and had no idea how she had ended up at Wrigley.
That wasn’t the only thing that was off. She could feel that something else was wrong too. She tried to remember what day it was… and couldn’t. Then she tried to remember what she had done the day before. She couldn’t. Besides her identity, it didn’t take her long to realize that she couldn’t remember anything. She took deep breaths and looked up at the historic brick buildings as she tried not to panic. She continued to walk.
