Walk The Spier Farm: Wine Tasting Room
Introduction - Tasting Room
Welcome to this audio tour of Spier. This is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa — its recorded history dates back to 1692. I'm Mariota Enthoven, a member of the family that bought Spier in 1993. I've been living with my husband, Angus McIntosh, and three children here since 2007.
Over the next hour, I'll be showing you the many facets of Spier: from art and wines to hospitality and heritage.
You should be standing in front of the balcony of the Tasting Room, next to the dam.
Turn to face the dam. Then start making your way along the raised section of lawn just to the right of the dam.
While you walk, let me briefly explain how VoiceMap works.
It uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. This means that you can put your phone away now. Don't worry if I'm silent for a while, when I'm not giving directions or telling stories. There's a map on your screen if you ever feel lost, and if you do get way off track without noticing, VoiceMap will let you know.
To your right is the space where we host The Spier Craft Market in summer.
There you’ll find a showcase of some of the best craftwork produced in the greater Cape Town area, at eight custom-designed units. Each is manned by a cluster of artists. Wire and beadwork, 3-dimensional paintings, mosaics, jewelry, textiles, ceramics and woodcarving are all represented.
Continue on the path across the lawn.
