    Deadman's Island

The bridge on your right leads to Deadman’s Island. Once again an appropriate name given this island's history.
Deadman’s Island was Vancouver’s first Graveyard, but even before that, the Squamish people say it was the sight of a fierce battle between Southern and Northern nations.
In 1890 there was a smallpox outbreak in Vancouver, and the Island was used to quarantine anyone displaying symptoms.
In 1942 the Island became the HMCS Discovery Naval Station and is still an active Canadian training base today.

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
