Tips
Places to stop along the way
Best time of day
Valletta is a city that can be enjoyed year-round, as it has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. However, if you prefer cooler temperatures and less crowded streets, it may be better to visit during the spring (April to May) or fall (October to November).
During the summer months (June to September), Valletta can be quite crowded and hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F). If you decide to visit during this time, it's important to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, as well as take breaks in shaded areas or indoor locations.
When planning the Valletta Uncovered walking tour, it's important to consider the opening hours of certain landmarks, such as St. John's Co-Cathedral and the Grandmaster Palace. Checking their schedules beforehand can help ensure that you can visit them during your preferred time of day.
Ultimately, the best time of day to do the tour will depend on your personal preferences and schedule. Early mornings are less crowded and cooler, making them ideal for exploring Valletta's architecture and landmarks. Late mornings or afternoons are better for a leisurely pace, cafes, and sunset viewing. Regardless of the time you choose, Valletta's beauty and history are worth experiencing in any season.
Precautions
Valletta's streets can be quite steep and uneven, so comfortable walking shoes are essential. Additionally, some landmarks, such as St. John's Co-Cathedral, may have a dress code that requires covered shoulders and knees. Sun protection is important as Valletta can get quite hot during the summer months, so it's a good idea to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. Staying hydrated is also important when walking around Valletta, so it's a good idea to bring a bottle of water with you. If you're visiting Valletta during the winter months (December to February), you may encounter rain, so bringing an umbrella or rain gear can help you stay dry and comfortable.
Valletta is generally a safe city for visitors, but it's always a good idea to take basic safety precautions. Keep your valuables secure and stay aware of your surroundings. If you plan to visit at night, it may be advisable to stick to well-lit areas and avoid walking alone.
