The Chairfather: Père Lachaise part III
Hi and welcome to Part III of The Chairfather tours! You should be standing at the Chapel in front of a nice rectangular grassy area, on the spot where tour 2 ends.
My name is Joe Start, expat resident around Paris for more than a dozen years. I'm the author of French License, a travel memoir, and The Chairfather, a humorous companion photo book to these tours.
If you've already gone on Parts I or II, then welcome back! If not, starting with Part III is OK. The paths are designed to begin where the last one ended, but directions are given in each so you may exit the park if you've had your fun after one tour. In Part I we met Oscar Wilde, Modigliani, Edith Piaf, along with 15 other personalities and their stories. Part II visited Moliere, Jim Morrison, Marcel Marceau and 17 other celebrities.
Of the three walks, this one is the easiest to follow. You’ll cover mostly paved ground with wide cobblestone paths leading you to 19 famous personalities. The route moves rapidly downhill at the start, then for the rest of the way, gradually goes uphill on a slight grade you probably won't notice.
Before heading out you may wish to pause the tour and get a drink of water at the fountain. If you're standing with your back to the Chapel, the fountain will be to your right, opposite the chapel.
For those on your first tour with VoiceMap, let me briefly explain how it works.
It uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. This means that you can put your phone away now. Don't worry if I'm silent for a while, when I'm not giving directions or telling stories. There's a map on your screen if you ever feel lost, and if you do get way off track without noticing, VoiceMap will let you know.
So, let's get going!
Turn so the Chapel is on your right, just ahead is a crossroads. Make your way towards it, then turn left when you get to it and continue walking.
Our first stop is close by. I'll meet you there.
