Turn left on Royal Street
Turn left here, at the entrance of Studio BE. We're almost back where we started, and at the end of today's walk.
I want to show you an important piece of street art. It's by the Egyptian artist Bahia Shehab, an Islamic art historian turned street artist during the Egyptian revolution. Look out for her TED talk. It's great.
I met Bahia when we worked together at the American University in Cairo. I've written about her work and even have one of her pieces tattooed on my arm. She did not realize that I lived in New Orleans since we had met during my two years living in Egypt. So it was a shock and a thrill to discover her work on the walls of my neighborhood, an amazing connection between what often feel like two different lives.
Carry on walking straight. Almost there...
