• LOCATION 32 | The Modoc War: A Homeland Lost

Merrill Historical & Modoc War Museum

Okay, you should now be parked in front of a long white rectangular building with a number of windows and a small awning over the front door. This is both Merrill City Hall and the Merrill Historical and Modoc Museum.

I wanted to take you here because inside is a large exhibit dedicated to the Modoc War, with a lot of original photos, making it a great opportunity to put some names to faces. There are not only pictures of Captain Jack and other Modocs, but also many of the soldiers, including a signature from General Canby.

If the Museum is open, feel free to hit pause and take a look inside. Also, if you happen to need gas, this town is the place to do it, just around the corner at 104 E Front St. When you're ready, come back here and press play to continue on our journey.

Alright! Welcome back. Are you ready to continue? Great. The next place I want to take you is where the Lost River Battle started. From the museum, reverse out of the parking lot when it's clear, keeping the museum on your right. Then, continue on East 2nd Street to the next block.
