A Walk through Keene's History
Keep going straight.
On your right is a brick gate and sign that says "Keene State College".
Keene State was founded in 1909 as a teacher's college. It was called Keene Normal School, then Keene Teacher's College. It is now a liberal arts school and a part of the University System of New Hampshire. Its undergraduate enrollment is around 4000 students. The campus is 150 acres and it includes many restored historical buildings.
As you continue to walk down Main Street, notice the college's grand buildings.
