Catherine founded a school for girls here in 1814.
Her school was on 20 acres of land and included a working farm. Catherine bought a mansion on Main Street to house her school in. This is now the Keene State College President's home.
Fiske and her school were famous in the nation. She taught math, english, science, geography, and history. She had teachers that were experts in music, drawing, painting, botany, language, and needlework. Manners, morals, and the correct use of the English Language were very important to her. Many of her students went on to be very successful.
