Newburgh Sounds and Stories
About the Tour
The Sound and Story Project of the Hudson Valley is a non- profit organization whose mission is to strengthen community through the power of listening. We believe by sharing the stories of ordinary people we can help each other become more aware of our own history and more connected to each other and the place where we live.
On this walk around Newburgh, you'll hear the stories of the Waterfront and surrounding area, told by ordinary people who live and work in the area.

Sound and Story
The Sound and Story Project, a non-profit organization, builds community memory and sense of place by recording and sharing our stories and regional sounds. Our mission is to document the history of the Hudson Valley, one voice at a time.
We travel to you—recording on location, in homes, or at your organization. We've professionally preserved over 300 personal narratives that form the rich, living history of the valley we call home. Audio tours, radio, exhibitions, podcasts—we make sure your stories get heard. We pull oral histories out of the digital "shoebox," where they too often sit unheard.
We believe that when the stories of ordinary people are shared widely, they build powerful connections between neighbors and with the place we all call home. We don't just preserve history; we bring it vividly to life. We provide full-service audio production and oral history consulting to libraries, museums, and community organizations.
Whether you need help launching a community oral history project, creating an audio tour, or producing a podcast, we can teach you the skills or handle the complete production.
