• LOCATION 9 | Discovering Conwy: The Medieval Walled Town on a Waterfront

    Lancaster Square

Take a look at the fountain with a statue of a warrior-like king. That is Llewelyn the Great one of our original Welsh princes - we now have English Princes of Wales! When Edward conquered Wales he promised the people a prince of royal blood born in Wales that spoke no English and he presented them his baby son - who spoke no Welsh either!

    Let's now leave Lancaster Square.

Turn to face the Police Station. You're going to make your way uphill, along the right hand side of the square - York Place.

The names around here evoke the 1400s Wars of the Roses which was won by Henry 7th- a Tudor. The Tudor's were a Welsh family with their family home on the Isle of Anglesey.
