Introduction and Start of Route
You should be standing in 2nd Avenue. In front of you is the green and purple Thai World. We're gonna take a 30-minute walk around the village, and I'll show you some of the history and charm of this neatly preserved little area. VoiceMap uses your phone's GPS location to trigger my voice, so you can now put your phone in your pocket and enjoy the walk. If it goes quiet for a while, don't panic: we're just in between locations. Stick on the route and you'll hear from me until I bid you farewell.
My name is John Bartmann and I'd like to share some of my enjoyment of this special part of the world with you. I'm in my thirties now, and I've lived in this area around Harfield Village my whole life. We used to ride, skateboard and rollerblade these streets as kids. I find myself becoming more interested in the history of my home as time goes by.
So let's go! Turn right and start walking down 2nd Avenue. Cross over the road now. A few steps ahead on your left is Home bar. Look up ahead and you'll notice the tiny Oxford Street alleyway on the left. As you walk past, glance through the metal gate that down leads onto the back of St Matthew's Anglican Church.
The annual Harfield Village Carnival is one the highlights of the year. For one day and night every year, the road is closed for an all-day event. Food and drinks stalls are everywhere, jazz bands play and everyone parties the day and night away.
