Vondelpark & Old West Neighbourhood
Stop here for a moment and take a look at the church towering up in front of you.
This is the Vondelchurch. It was built in Gothic revival style and was designed by Pierre Cuypers. He's the famous architect responsible for Amsterdam’s Central Station and the Rijksmuseum.
Amsterdam should be praised for its vision to restore and preserve monuments, ensuring that the original character of the building is left intact. In this way, Amsterdam’s heritage remains open to the public.
[1,5 SECOND PAUSE]
Okay, now turn left and follow the road as it curves around the church.
[2 SECOND PAUSE]
Today the Vondelchurch also hosts concerts and is rented out for special occasions, including weddings, formal dinners and meetings. I came here to attend the wedding of my best friend Fleur in 2008, which was quite a joyful experience. It was the first and last time that I showed my disco moves in a church.
Keep following the road.
