Vondelpark & Old West Neighbourhood
On your left is a large brick building with an arched entrance way. This is where we'll end our walk, so make your way inside and explore the building while I tell you about it.
[3 SECOND PAUSE]
This is called De Hallen, a former tram depot which is now a national monument. This venue is a traditional, functionalist complex built for the maintenance of the first electric trams around 1900. The building was in a deplorable state. The challenge was to do a 21st century renovation and to open and connect the building to its surroundings.
This historical site houses several companies, including an art house cinema, hotel, TV studio, library, crafts centre, cultural organization and culinary concepts like the Kanarie Club and the Foodhallen, which you can find on the left.
Foodhallen is an international indoor food market where you can experience different food concepts and cuisines in a historical venue.
Take your time to wander around in the large loft-like space of the Foodhallen and together with locals and visitors you will discover the very best culinary experiences Amsterdam has to offer.
