Republic of Amsterdam Radio is a collaboration by Julian Smith and Joe Wegecsanyi. We are a pair of history nerds with a passion for telling stories. We have been working in the Netherlands tourism industry since 2009, giving walking tours, bike tours and boat tours, as well as directing Rhine river cruises. We first started making history media in 2017 with our podcast Stuff What You Tell Me, which explored the role of revolution and rebellion in history. In 2019 we completed our project Free and Fearless, a collaboration with Stichting Democratie en Media, which told the story of a group of young men who were executed for their role in the underground press in the occupied Netherlands during the Second World War. Our current major project is the History of the Netherlands podcast, which aims to give a chronological re-telling of Dutch history from antiquity to the modern day. We have also collaborated on YouTube projects and art projects relating to the history of Amsterdam, such as an installation in the 2019 edition of Amsterdam Light Festival.
